Dental Implants

You wisdom teeth (third molars) are the last of your teeth to erupt from your gumline. Normally appearing during your late teens and early twenties, wisdom teeth often do not have enough room in your smile to grow properly. This often leads wisdom teeth to become impacted. Impaction means that the wisdom teeth grow in sideways or do not fully erupt as they should.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are quickly becoming the most popular option when it comes to tooth replacement. That is because dental implants are exceptionally stable and are designed to look and feel just like your natural teeth.

How are dental implants put in?

Dental implants are created to replace the entirety of your tooth, from the tooth root to the crown and cusp of the tooth above the gumline. Dental implants are made from small titanium posts surgically implanted into your jawbone. After placing the posts, we allow your gums and jaw to heal as the bone tissue fuses to the post. We allow several months for the complete healing process.

Once your smile has healed, we will place a connecting post, called an abutment, onto the metal post. The abutment will permanently attach to your final dental restoration. Based on your individual needs, your dental restoration will generally be a custom-made crown, bridge, or denture by your general dentist. Together, dental implants can replace a single tooth or your entire smile.
